Footloose first rehearsal.

Today was our first rehearsal for Footloose in DG7 where we got to meet our directors as well as see the what the musical is starting to sound like.

I have started working on some more paperwork today which includes props list and a props list layout for the show. The props list is what props we need, where they are used and how we are going to source them. The props list is the final version of the props for the show and purely lists what props are used, where they are used, how they are used and what amount there are. This is to be used by the ASM as a reference to what props we have.

Other paperwork I am planning to create are checklists, performance reports, scene changes, rehearsal schedules and scene break downs.

Finding some string dubstep

I have started researching dubstep that represents String. I am starting to research a lot of different sub genres of dubstep which provided a lot of different styles which I will present to the director and from then keep narrowing the search down until we find a song or style the director is happy with.

Some of the songs I am starting to look at would include:

Dance, Life of a string.

Today we have started our first rehearsal of the year 2 dance show: Life of a string. We have started making notes for all of our departments and started to see how the dance is starting to look and what music they are planning to use.

I am on sound so I am asking about what soundtracks they would need and what soundtracks they have. I am also asking about any sound effects they want along with any soundscapes they want to enhance the performance.

I am planning to run sound off Qlab and make it the least amount of work for myself so it would just be a case of pressing space bar for the whole of the show.

For my speaker plan the Director has mentioned using dubstep which is quite heavy on bass so I want to give a good impact when bass is used in the song. So I am thinking of having a couple of subs underneath the seating so it will add a lot of atmosphere. I am planning on trying to put alot more emphasis on the other frequencies such as high and high mid so I am planning to put the standard of 2 speaker stacks either side of the stage which consist of 1 sub, 1 mid and 1 high. I am wanting to give full range of sound and totally emirs the audience in sound. This is only possible by having a sort of “surround sound” style so I would take advantage of the QTX active speakers and place them around the venue. At the minute the plan I have is quite ambitious but I think it is the only way to emirs the audience.

The dance show also has the art department involved so there will be some set to go in is well. If there is alot this could prove a few problems for my speaker plan. This plan being there will not be enough space for the speaker stacks or speakers and the set will effect the quality of the sound. If thats the case I have to think of ways to combat or re arrange my speakers.

Starting on footloose!

The past week I have been getting started on footloose and starting getting in contact with my director. I have managed to organise the first production meeting for the up coming Wednesday. So prior to this I am prepping as much as I can. I have already started and finished my meeting agenda and meeting agenda notes layout all set for the meeting. I have messaged all of the production if they have any questions for the up coming meeting to try and get as much planned as we can.

Some preparation I have done would include myself starting to get all the production crew’s emails so I can start emailing them with paperwork or anything else such as plans or ideas I have.

I am going to start working on my contact sheets layout for both cast and crew. Once I have finished the paperwork I can then start focusing on setting deadlines and goals for all of the crew for any designs or plans the director would want to see.

Theme change.

Today the theme has been changed from Dark matter to Showtime. This means I sort of have to scrap my idea I had for dark matter and change it to something completely different and I cant adapt it. This is because we thought the animation would be just animating characters but is apparently totally abstract. So we now have to work around having abstract animation.

I have found some new royalty free songs I am able to use and I am now in the process of researching new songs and new range of genres to adapt to my idea of what I have for show tunes.

Finding new music

Today I have started looking at more palaces to source my royalty free music from. As we are not allowed to use copyrighted music its been a challenge for me to try and find music I can connect to and feel with to use in my ASL which I am taking quite personally. However, I have found a few new metal songs and a new website (http://www.teknoaxe.com/Master_List.php) where I am able to source some dubstep, drum and bass, rock and metal etc. from. This music sounds quite nice and I can work with the music which is what i’m aiming to do. Its proving difficult to find music to portray a emotion when there is a limited amount of it.
